Picton Marina Update

Picton Marina has been humming this summer, with visiting super yachts and launches bringing an influx of international visitors to the nearby township – all making the most of the long hot Marlborough summer! The launching ramp has been busy too – plenty of Marlborough families have been out and about on the water this year and it has been great to see everyone taking part in safe boating with their families.

Super yachts from Australia, the United States, and as far afield as the United Kingdom made use of Picton’s large berths to enjoy the delights of the town. They were joined by a higher-than-usual number of cruise ships with thousands of international visitors enjoying all that Picton has to offer. The largest Cruise ship ever to enter New Zealand waters graced the Marlborough Sounds this season, the Explorer of the Seas. She came into port in Picton in both November and January, bringing 3,000 passengers and effectively doubling the population of the town. Hosting so many summer visitors really makes Picton come alive in summer – with markets lining the waterfront and buskers on the High Street.
