Marlborough Sounds Marinas Spring Twilight Series – Race 6

Race Report from Waikawa Boating Club

It ain’t over until it’s over! That was the message across all three divisions in Race 6 of the Marlborough Marinas Spring Twilight Series.

There was a fair breeze across the top of the course but just about all of the 36 boats encountered difficulty at the bottom mark 4 with little to no breeze each time they came around the course.

The message of it not being over until it’s over, hit home when Coup d’Etat (division 1), and Haurere (division 3) came around the bottom mark in last and second last place, respectively. They were both met with little to no wind at the turn for the finish line and about 15 boats stuck going nowhere at the committee boat end of the line. Fortunately for them, they were at the pin end of the line and the breeze there was building. They both strolled past the stalled bunch, each picking up 6 places in their division, in the space of about 200m.

Needless to say, it was a busy night with plenty of discussion at the Waikawa Boating Club for dinner and prize giving.
