Colin Wynn – Artist Profile
Leading New Zealand marine and landscape artist Colin Wynn is a berth holder at Havelock Marina. Colin enjoys the Pelorus, but specifically Bulwer due to the social atmosphere and the proximity to Stephens and DUrville Islands.
Colin Wynn’s family have had their annual holidays in the Pelorus Sound since his parents had their Honeymoon in the Kenepuru in 1949. Colin first joined them in 1961 and from then on they stayed at Te Rawa, Saville’s Bay for a time and latterly since the mid 1990’s, the Bulwer area has been their destination.
Colin enjoys visiting friends in the Pelorus because there is quite a bit less boat traffic and less pressure on resources. His dad built their launch Tawero in their back yard in Lower Hutt, with Colin taking over the project when his health failed in 1996 completing her and moving her over to a permanent spot at Havelock marina.
Colin’s paintings are regularly shown in galleries around New Zealand and his work graces corporate, public and private collections around the world. He has been the official artist of the Royal New Zealand Navy since 1983. We are grateful to Colin for allowing us to showcase a selection of his work here – specifically the pieces inspired by and created in and around the Pelorus area.
