Choosing the Right Contractor for your Vessel
At Marlborough Sounds Marinas, we’re committed to protecting not only your boat but the boats of all our valued customers. When work is carried out in our marinas and, it’s essential that it is done safely, professionally, and with care for our environment.
For this reason, as per our marina rules, only Registered Contractors who have completed our induction process are permitted to operate in Picton, Waikawa and/or Havelock marinas, as well as on the Hardstand at our Waikawa Marine Centre. This ensures that everyone working onsite understands our health, safety, and environmental standards.
Why Contractor Registration Matters
Our contractor induction and registration process has been designed to help contractors meet their obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, while ensuring they comply with Marlborough Sounds Marinas’ environmental policies.
This protects:
- Your vessel
- Other marina users
- Our staff
- The surrounding marine environment
Registered Contractors are familiar with our expectations and processes, giving you confidence that any work carried out on your boat is done responsibly.
The Importance of the Right Insurance
Marine work carries unique risks, so we require all Registered Contractors to hold current Public Liability Insurance and Marine Trades or Ship Repairer’s Liability Insurance.
Public Liability Insurance typically covers:
- Damage caused to marina property or other boats
- Accidental injury to third parties while work is being carried out
- Costs associated with accidental spills or environmental damage
Ship Repairers Liability Insurance typically covers:
- Damage to a vessel while it is being repaired or serviced
- Losses arising from errors in workmanship
- Accidental damage to tools, equipment, or nearby property during marine repair activities
Engaging a contractor with the correct insurance protects you, your vessel, and your finances. In the unlikely event that something goes wrong, their insurance ensures issues can be resolved professionally, safely, and without leaving you exposed to unexpected costs.
