International Clean Marina Certification

The team at Marlborough Sounds Marinas are delighted to announce that we have achieved International Clean Marina certification.

This globally recognised accreditation from the Marina Industries Association (MIA) for the Asia Pacific Region and the International Council of Marine Industry Associations (ICOMIA) is a real testament to our commitment to protecting our environment here around our operational areas, and our commitment to excellence in marina management.

The International Clean Marina Programme sets high standards for marinas, yacht clubs, boatyards, and related industries to improve environmental practices and reduce pollution. The certification process is rigorous, covering environmental operating procedures, emergency protocols, asset maintenance, and customer education. Our team have put a lot of work in behind the scenes to ensure that we have everything in place to meet these high standards, and to protect our environment.

We are proud to share that all three of our marinas—Picton, Waikawa, and Havelock—have been individually assessed and accredited as “International Clean Marinas.” This is a significant milestone for New Zealand, as Marlborough Sounds Marinas is the first in the country to receive this accreditation.

Anouk Euzeby, our Marinas Manager, recently expressed pride in our team’s efforts: “Gaining this certification is a proud moment for our marinas team, who have worked diligently to enhance our systems for environmental protection and marina management. The preparation for the certification audit involved reviewing procedures and training manuals, updating our website with the latest environmental and operational information, renewing signage, reconfiguring waste sites, and constructing a new recycling centre at Picton Marina. Our team’s dedication, even during a busy season, has been remarkable.”

We would like to also thank our community, and our marina users for their ongoing support.

As we look forward to another busy boating season as the weather warms up, we are excited to continue to provide a world-class and environmentally friendly marina experience.
