Portage Resort – Kenepuru Sound

Local wines and sunset views

“The service I received from Christine and Zahid made me feel like I was family. They welcomed me after a long day of walking and were very accommodating to all the guests. This was the best food I ate while I was in New Zealand”.

Looking for a Christmas Dinner option or a place to celebrate on New Years Eve then this could be the destination for you but be sure to make a reservation.

There is a relaxing pool area with loungers, and beach front area available to explore with kiddies, and fishing rods and games available for use. Milkshakes are available at the bar, as well as ice-cream sundaes.

If you are wanting to stay on land a bit longer, then the Portage Resort has a collection of recently refurbished and thoughtfully designed accommodations, ranging from cozy rooms to spacious suites for you to relax and unwind in. View their accommodation options here.

Getting there

Travelling from Havelock Marina it is roughly a 40min journey through the Kenepuru Sound to reach the resort where they have four moorings available for visitors and guests. These are located directly in front of the resort and can be booked for periods of 24 hours. Pickups and drop offs on arrival and departure are free of charge. If you would like to use the tender service during your stay, there is an additional charge.

Vessel size limits apply as follows:

  1. M1825  – maximum 8 metre vessel
  2. M1826  – maximum 18 metre vessel
  3. M1827 – maximum 6 metre vessel
  4. M1828 – maximum 12 metre vessel

Boaties please check out the information around the available swing moorings here:  https://www.portageresort.co.nz/moorings

Alternatively, if you are in Picton or Waikawa Marina the journey is a short one to Torea Bay where (if you are lucky) you can grab one of the limited moorings. You can then walk along the historic saddle trail that was traversed by Māori carrying their waka (canoes) across the land to navigate between Queen Charlotte Sound and Kenepuru Sound.

So, whether you’re looking for a quiet getaway to sit at the pool soaking in your surroundings or place to enjoy meal or a drink, the Portage Resort is the perfect place for you.
