Nopera Golf Club – Kenepuru Sound
There are very few quality golf courses as remote as Nopera, but access is only an issue if you’re looking for an excuse to avoid great golf, amazing scenery, good seasonal fishing, wonderful local accommodation and the relaxed local lifestyle. Marlborough Sounds Marinas is a proud teebox sponsor of the club – and we are excited to say that the course is looking fantastic and is a real testament to the wonderful volunteers in the committee.
Easily one of New Zealand’s remotest courses, and the only course in the Marlborough Sounds, it lies across the road from the sea and has areas of gentle elevation with staggering views of the Kenepuru Sound and the surrounding bush clad hills. It is a short 9-hole course due to the physical constraints of existing within a working farm but offers difficulty due to the proximity of out of bound fences, trees and a deep creek that bisects the property. Nopera Golf’s major annual tournament is the revamped Bayley’s Nopera Open which takes place at the end of February.
Nopera Bay Golf Club is run entirely by volunteers who care deeply about maintaining the course to a high standard and continue ongoing development. It boasts modern equipment and a comprehensive irrigation scheme to enable good playing conditions year-round despite a high rainfall climate interspersed with hot dry summers.
If golf is not your thing, then there is a Croquet Court on the course adjacent to the clubhouse and equipment available to hire at very reasonable rates for both sports.
