We’re really happy to advise that resource consent for extension of Waikawa Marina was granted in June.  The consent provides for a new marina of approximately 240 berths, for vessels of up to 30 metres in length.  Breakwater construction will include rigid panel breakwaters to the north and east of the marina basin, ensuring an excellent wave environment for the berths.  Overall styling of the marina will be similar to the newer inner basin area at Picton, while minimising environmental and landscape impact on The Snout coastline.

The consent provides for some flexibility of design to enable reclamation, parking layout and construction techniques to be optimised.  We’ll be working through those details in coming months, and expect to be in a position to seek Board approval for funding and physical development early in 2019 – contingent on user demand and economic factors.  All things being equal, we’re hopeful of making a start on construction sometime during winter 2019.
