Marina Waste System Upgrade: What You Need to Know
Some important changes have been implemented at the rubbish and recycling facilities at Picton and Waikawa Marinas.
As part of our ongoing strategy to centralise waste management, we have established a new rubbish and recycling compound at Waikawa Marina East. In addition, all compounds at Picton and Waikawa are now set up in accordance with the WasteMINZ colour‑coding standards:

- Grey Lid bin – Cardboard. Cardboard need to be cleaned, dry and flattened
- Yellow Lid bin – Mixed recycling. Mixed recycling includes plastic bottles, plastic containers, steel and tin cans. Please ensure that your containers have been washed and dried and that all lids have been removed
- Red Lid bin – General waste.
- Skip bin for glass – Currently blue or grey; blue colour coding will be introduced at a later stage
Clear signage and colour coding have been implemented to make sorting easier and reduce contamination. We hope these improvements enhance your experience at the marina.
Additionally, we are bringing mixed recycling and cardboard collection in-house using our existing marina truck and resources. This change allows us to adjust collection cycles to better match seasonal variations in marina activity.
Thank you for your cooperation as we continue to improve our facilities. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
