Marinas Waste and Recycling Facilities
Feedback from our recent customer survey showed that our marina customers and local Sounds Residents were keen to understand more about our provision of rubbish and recycling facilities at the marinas. An update on work done following the survey, and FAQ is provided below:
Q: Do the marinas provide enough waste facilities for boat owners?
A: Following our survey, we have expanded our capacity for rubbish collection with the creation of rubbish / recycling compounds in each marina, and have increased our collection frequency for recycling collection this Summer.
We have also increased the opening hours of Picton rubbish and recycling compound to 7.30am to 6pm.
Each rubbish and recycling compound in the marinas provide recycling facilities for cardboard, mixed recycling and glass. Please make sure you use the recycling facilities provided
Q: Can we bring rubbish / recycling from our holiday home / bach to the marina?
A: Waste and recycling facilities in the marinas are for rubbish and recycling generated on board your boat only.
We have worked with Council’s Waste Team to provide and/or expand the rubbish and recycling facilities for Sounds residents and holiday home owners with no or limited road access in all three marinas.
There is now Sounds resident and bach owner rubbish collection and removal provided by the Council in each marina
• In Picton, Council facilities are located by the Coathanger bridge – this is general waste rubbish only
• In Waikawa, Council facilities are located by the East ablution facilities – this is general waste and recycling
• In Havelock – the existing rubbish and recycling facilities now hosts Council bins. This is only provided on a trial basis. The opening hours of Havelock rubbish and recycling compound to 7.30am to 6pm in the summer
Marina refuse facilities are for boat generated rubbish. Council refuse facilities are for household generated rubbish. Those are clearly labelled – please use the recipients available in the marinas accordingly.
