Future-Proofing Havelock Marina: Early Planning for Channel Reinstatement and Jetty Redevelopment Underway

Port Marlborough has begun early planning for a proposed redevelopment of the wooden jetties at Havelock Marina. This work aims to future-proof the marina with modern infrastructure that better supports boaties and industry into the years ahead.

The project includes reinstating the channel access by dredging parts of the entrance channel and basin, as well as the redevelopment of some of Havelock’s older timber jetties. This follows significant storm events in recent years, which have accelerated sediment build-up in the already tidal marina and made it increasingly difficult to maintain safe and reliable access.  We’ve received early support through the Government’s Regional Infrastructure Fund and are now working through the planning and consenting phases.

We are working directly with marina users throughout the planning process and will continue to keep the wider community informed. A community drop-in session will be held once further details are confirmed, providing an opportunity to ask questions and view the proposed plans.

This project will help ensure Havelock Marina continues to facilitate Marlborough’s regional economy, enabling local employment, aquaculture and tourism activity, and providing access for residents and recreation across the Pelorus and Kenepuru Sounds. Our goal is to maintain a resilient, well-functioning marina that serves both our berth holders and the wider community well into the future.
