Top of the South Marine Biosecurity Forum

You’re invited to a day of insights, innovation, and practical learning at the annual Top of the South Marine Biosecurity Partnership Forum.

The event is being held on Thursday 30th October from 09:30 until 16:00 at Waikawa Boating Club.

The Top of the South Marine Biosecurity Partnership includes representation from Tasman District Council, Nelson City Council, Marlborough District Council, Ministry for Primary Industries, Department of Conservation, the aquaculture industry, port companies, tangata whenua and other stakeholders.

All New Zealanders have a role to play, and the Partnership is open to any organisation or industry that wants to participate in reducing biosecurity risk in the Top of the South.

Hear from experts:

  • Dr Irene Middleton (Biosecurity New Zealand) – Marine Biosecurity in New Zealand: Protecting what we love
  • Dr Ian Davidson (Cawthron Institute) – New technologies and strategies for managing marine pests
  • Dr Patrick Cahill (Cawthron Institute) – Antifouling coatings and product selection
  • Dr Chris Woods and Dr Deborah Hofstra (Earth Sciences New Zealand) – National Marine High Risk Site Surveillance Programme and the Aquatic Biosecurity Flagship Programme

Get hands-on:
In-person attendees will participate in a live Marine Biosecurity Incursion Response Scenario, where theory meets practice in a simulated operational setting.
