By Air

Picton airport at Koromiko is 10 minutes from Picton; and Blenheim airport is 35km from Picton and a similar distance from Havelock.

Sounds Air operates regular scheduled flights between Wellington and Picton; and between Wellington and Blenheim in their turbo prop Cessna Caravan aircraft. Flight time is just 25 minutes and there’s the added bonus of stunning views of Cook Strait, the Marlborough Sounds and the Wairau Plains.  Sounds Air also offer scenic and charter services. Air New Zealand flies regular scheduled services from Blenheim to Wellington, and Blenheim to Christchurch. Visit Air New Zealand for more information.

By Road

From Blenheim, Picton is only a 25 minute drive along State Highway 1. Havelock is 30 minutes from Blenheim along State Highway 6.

From Nelson, travel along State Highway 6 where you’ll reach Havelock in around an hour. If you want to continue on to Picton, either turn left at Havelock onto Queen Charlotte Drive for 30 minutes of scenic, winding road, or take the inland route on to the Wairau Valley, and turn left onto State Highway 1 at Spring Creek.

There are regular scheduled bus and shuttle services from Nelson, Kaikoura and Christchurch.

As the interisland ferry terminal port for the South Island, Picton is very well serviced by rental car and campervan hire companies.

By Rail

One of the best ways to enjoy New Zealand’s diverse landscape and explore its hidden gems is to travel by train. The ‘Coastal Pacific’ journey travels from Christchurch to Picton and returns daily between October and April.

On this memorable journey will take you astonishingly near to the surging Pacific Ocean along the rugged and beautiful Kaikoura coastline under the towering Kaikoura Ranges You’ll also travel through beautiful wine growing regions, across broad, braided rivers and through the patchwork farming landscape of the Canterbury Plains. By Ferry

From Wellington, it’s an easy journey across Cook Strait on either Bluebridge or Interislander ferry services.  The three and a bit hour sailing is a great opportunity to kick back and relax into Sounds time. Visit Blue Bridge or Interislander for more information.
